Italian charms come in different sizes — and getting the size right matters. Charms from different sizes don’t interchange, so a 9mm charm won’t fit a 13mm bracelet and vice versa. Here’s everything you need to know before you buy.
The main sizes explained
9mm — The everyday classic
The most common Italian charm size. The 9mm link is approximately 9mm wide, giving the bracelet a slim, delicate profile that sits comfortably on most wrists and works well for everyday wear.
A standard 9mm bracelet takes 18 to 24 charms to fill completely, depending on wrist size. Most people never fill theirs entirely — the bracelet grows over time, one charm at a time.
Choose 9mm if: She already has a 9mm bracelet, or she’s starting fresh and prefers a more delicate look.
13mm — The bold statement
The 13mm charm is noticeably wider than the 9mm. It makes a stronger visual statement on the wrist and suits designs with more detail or colour — the larger surface area gives artists more to work with.
A 13mm bracelet typically takes 13 to 16 charms to fill.
Choose 13mm if: She already has a 13mm bracelet, or she prefers a bolder, more substantial look on the wrist.
18mm — The Superlink
The 18mm format, sometimes called a Superlink, is a larger showcase charm designed to act as a focal point on a wider bracelet. These are less common in everyday collections and are usually chosen as centrepiece pieces.
Choose 18mm if: You’re looking for a statement centrepiece and her bracelet supports this format.
How to check what size bracelet she has
The easiest way is to measure the width of the individual links. A ruler or tape measure laid across one link will give you the width in millimetres.

Starting a new bracelet
If she doesn’t have a bracelet yet, 9mm is the most popular starting point and the size with the widest range of charm designs available.
We recommend starting with a bracelet and at least two or three charms. A single charm on an empty bracelet looks sparse — three gives her something that already feels like it’s begun.
Are all Italian charm brands compatible?
Yes, within the same size. A 9mm charm from any brand will fit any standard 9mm Italian charm bracelet. The modular snap-together system is universal across the Italian charm industry. The same applies to 13mm.
Sizes are not cross-compatible — a 9mm charm will not fit a 13mm bracelet.
